You invoice in CFA francs. You want the price before tax, the VAT and the total with tax to add up, invoice after invoice.
The rate
This guide applies the 19.25% rate.
Before tax to with tax
| Description | Quantity | Price before tax | VAT 19.25% | Price with tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sample item | 1 | 100,000 | 19,250 | 119,250 |
| Sample item 2 | 1 | 12,000 | 2,310 | 14,310 |
Example: amounts in CFA francs, fictional items. VAT = price before tax × 0.1925.
From the price with tax to the price before tax
Divide by 1.1925. For 119,250 FCFA with tax: 119,250 ÷ 1.1925 = 100,000 FCFA before tax. VAT is the difference: 19,250 FCFA.
Do not take 19.25% off the price with tax: 119,250 − 19.25% gives 96,294, which is wrong.
On the invoice
An invoice usually shows the price before tax, the VAT amount and the total with tax, on separate lines. The details an invoice must carry are set by the rules.
Common mistakes
- Rounding each line and then the total: round once, on the total, following your accountant's rule.
- Mixing prices shown with tax and prices before tax in the same quote.
- Forgetting an exempt item: check the list in the rules.
